Structural determinants of cortical activity propagation

Understanding the mechanisms of the brain, particularly the cerebral cortex, is our general goal. This theme breaks up into many detailed problems that still await more definite answers. We believe that investigating structure/function relationships will provide important insights into the organization and workings of brain systems. Our experimental and computational investigations cover both global relationships between cortical areas (cat, primates) and microcircuitry within a cortical area (rat barrel cortex).
The methods include: extra- and intracellular slice recordings, receptor autoradiography, fMRI, multivariate statistical analyses, computational modeling.
